It has been promoted by Lenovo as a “kickass” device. And the K6 Power is counting on multimedia to live up
to that promise. Here are our first impressions of the device.
Lenovo recently added another Smartphone in its portfolio — the Lenovo K6 Power . The smartphone that was launched at an event in Delhi is priced at Rs. 9,999, and comes as the
successor of the Lenovo Vibe K5 series, and is exclusively available on Flipkart from December 6th.
The K6 Power comes with a metal unibody design and sports a full HD 5.0-inch screen. It measures 141.90 x 70.30 x 9.30 mm and weighs 145 grams. The device may not be the slimmest but grabs points for being compact and easy to use. Given the fact that we had complained about manufacturers making phones too big to handle, it was a relief to see that we could use the K6 Power with one hand, reaching every nook and corner of the phone effortlessly.
Actually, the device reminded us of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 – the K6 Power looks somewhat like a close cousin of the device, although the Redmi Note 3 was slightly larger, given its 5.5-inch
display. The device will be available in Gold, Dark Grey and Silver color options, and we got the Dark Grey variant for the review.
The front of the smartphone carries no physical buttons. There are three capacitive buttons just below the screen and a selfie camera is placed on top alongside with the earpiece. The back of the phone carries two shiny silver antenna bands on top and bottom, making them appear more like design elements than liabilities. Just below the
antenna band on top, Lenovo has placed the camera, followed by a flash and a fingerprint sensor (shades of the Redmi Note 3, remember?).
The back of the Lenovo K6 Power also holds two Dolby Atmos speakers just above the antenna band on the bottom. The screen lock/ power button and the volume rocker are located on the right side whereas on the left the company has placed the hybrid SIM card tray.
On the top of the handset is a 3.5mm jack and rather interestingly, the micro USB port as well – that is a bit of a rarity. With just the mic placed on the base, Lenovo has kept the lower part of the device relatively plain. The K6 Power is impressively light, taking in to consideration the fact that the smartphone is backed by a massive
4000 mAh battery along with reverse charging support.
In hardware terms, the Lenovo K6 Power is powered by Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 3 GB of RAM. The device comes with 32 GB storage on board which can be expanded to 256
GB via MicroSD card. The smartphone works on Android Marshmallow 6.0 topped with Lenovo’s in-house VibeUI. In the camera department, the K6 Power carries a 13 megapixel primary camera on the back with PDAF, and there is a 8 megapixel secondary camera on the front. The Lenovo K6 Power also comes with 4G VoLTE
support and has Wi-Fi 802.11n, USB OTG, GPS and Bluetooth 4.1 as other connectivity options.
All in all, our first impression of the Lenovo K6 Power was that it was good looking (but not of the “something we have never seen before” variety) and very compact and handy. Lenovo is counting heavily on multimedia for the success of this device – the integration of Dolby Atmos speakers and TheaterMax technology will allow the users to experience Lenovo’s brand of virtual reality.
Whether it delivers on its promise of being as ‘kickass’ a product as Lenovo claimed will be revealed in our review in the coming days. As of now, we can sum up our first impressions of the K6 Power in two words: we like.
